STERIPACK Bowie-Dick test pack consists of steam-sensitive chemical indicator test sheets in a compact package of 22 sheets of porous material. Wrapped in an envelope of smooth paper. The test in itself consists of a paper sheet containing a thermo chemical reactive substance that offers a wide indication zone for steam exposure. It is a very sophisticated printing method using an extremely sensitive ink to ensure that adequate parameters of sterilization have been met (time, temperature and pressure). Bowie and Dick Steripack using Bowie and Dick techniques is one of the most reliable methods for detecting air leak or air removal failure.
Utilization, interpretation:
Place test pack horizontally, label side up in bottom front of loaded steam sterilizer and run through a normal cycle (3min 30s at 134ºC,+/-1.5°C). After completion of cycle take off the sheet in the middle of the pack. A CORRECT sterilization process is shown by a completely black printed spiral. Inadequate exposure or improper high temperature are indicated as a grey or silver-coloured area. An INCORRECT sterilization is indicated as a lighter-coloured area in the centre of an otherwise black area. Test sheet can be stored for future reference and includes information such as number of cycle, autoclave number, date, name of the agent, results and validation.
